I really enjoyed Dragon Bound, the first book in the Elder Races, but I haven’t had time to pick up Book Two. Then along came Audible and their Romance Package, and soon I was listening away to Storm’s Heart during my short commutes around town. I listened to most of this, but caved near the end and borrowed the book from the library so I could gobble it up and be done. It was a fun read!

Niniane, aka Tricks, has been living with the Wyr for two hundred years. After fleeing from her home the night her uncle killed her family and took over the throne of the Dark Fae, she asked Dragos for sanctuary. Acting as the head of PR for Dragos’ business empire, Niniane has lived in fear of her uncle finding her and murdering her. When Urien unwisely kidnaps Dragos’ mate in Book One, Dragos kills him. Now Niniane is forced to do her duty, declare herself as the Queen of the Dark Fae, and leave the Wyr behind. When an attempt is made on her life, Tiago, a Wyr Sentinel, vows to protect her with his life. If he can find her, since she’s fled and nobody has heard from her in days.

I really enjoyed this. The audio version is lively and just plain fun. Niniane is at a huge disadvantage, having been away from the Dark Fae court for hundreds of years. She doesn’t understand all of the power dynamics, and she certainly doesn’t know who she can trust. Her cousin tried to seduce her, and when she rebuffed his advances, attempted to kill her instead. She is heartbroken that she can’t even trust her family to have her back. The only people she can trust unconditionally are the Wyr, and her people will have a fit if she continues her friendship with them. Hello, their leader just killed their king, as wicked as he may have been. What a pickle she’s gotten herself into.

Tiago is an uber alpha, and he’s promised to protect her with his life. The thunderbird, he is a hair away from coming unglued and giving into his darker side. He is insanely jealous, which did get on my nerves, and I had a little problem with how old he was compared to Niniane, but since they are both paranormal creatures who can’t really exist – I just let it go. Still, it was so much like cradle robbing. Ugh! Just let it go!

The action was intense, the smexy scenes were steamy, and I really enjoyed the supporting cast. I’ll keep reading (or listening) to this series because I find it so much fun.
